Eyelid plasty (BLEPHAROPLASTY) |
Eyelid plasty is a quite remarkable form of surgery as the patient can see immediate results. |
 |
|
This surgery can be performed on:
-the upper eyelids only
-the lower eyelids only
-the upper and lower eyelids at the same time
It gives a fresh new look to the face and immediately removes the sad and tired expression so many people complain about.
Upper eyelid plasty
The incision is made in the natural skin fold of the opened eyelid so that it will be completely unnoticeable.
This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and takes about 35 minutes. No specific pre-operative preparations are required bar a coagulation test.
The stitches are removed after three days. The result may then already be slightly visible, depending on the swelling and the bruising of the eyelid.
It involves one week’s work incapacitation.
Lower eyelid plasty
The incision is made under the line of the lower eyelash, which ensures that the scar will be hardly noticeable.
During surgery we ensure that the skin and muscle of the lower eyelid are tightened again. The small pocket of subcutaneous fat is removed as well.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and takes about 45 minutes.
One week after surgery the stitches may be removed. Depending on swelling and bruising the result may then be either visible or not .
It involves one week to 10 days’ work incapacitation.
It is possible to perform both procedures at the same time. In that case, the procedure will take about 1H15 min.
As with all surgery under local anaesthetic it is advisable not to take any medicines containing aspirin or similar components. (these influence blood coagulation))
It is also advisable not to smoke one week prior to surgery and for one week afterwards so that the healing process is not slowed down.
The patients return for consultation:
-3 and/or 7 days after surgery to have the stitches removed
- 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after surgery.
